Custom Fields don't show up in published calendar

I've created a number of custom fields, and assigned them to custom event types. Their status is set to "published".

When I create an event, the custom fields show up on the Event Creation form, but the newer fields do not show up on the published Calendar. Is there a setting that I am missing somewhere? The custom fields were created some time ago (i.e. several weeks ago), and we have been entering data into them for several weeks, but the data does not show up on the published calendar on Trumba or in calendars created via spuds on our site.

Hi Larry,

Can you let me know the custom fields that are not appearing for your events that you have posted? As long as you have checked the option:
Allow this field to be published, that field will be availble for that event type. The field will only display on the published calendar when data is entered for the field.

If you would like the custom fields to display on the event submission form, also make sure this option is checked: Show this field on the public submit event form. I did notice several of your custom fields do not have that setting checked under Define Custom Fields.

regards,
Steve

I am experiencing the same issue with my custom fields not showing up. This has been an ongoing problem - I've just never reported it.

I created two custom fields and checked both publish settings boxes as Steve suggested. The fields show up in my event editor but will not show up on a spud calendar.
It doesn't make a difference if you type in text or not into the custom field.

Thanks for your advice!

Hi Emily,
I did look at your account and notice that you have set up the custom fields correctly and they are part of your event type for your account. In order for these fields to appear on the published calendars and within the event details you want to be sure you add data to those fields when you are adding or editing the event in Trumba. Currently there are no values for these two custom fields for any of the events on your calendar. Trumba will only display the custom field if data is present. Let me know if that works for you!
Thanks,
Steve

Hi Emily,
This is making more sense now as I was able to track down the calendar view you are using. This view is based on the Photo Events view and was custom developed for Cliburn a few years ago. This calendar view is based on custom fields that were requested at the time it was developed exclusively for you. What I recommend is to remove the two custom fields you set up and include the values for the Map Link and Program into the Notes field, as this is the field this custom spud currently displays when you select the More Info option.

Thanks,
Steve

Hi Steve-

yet another question for you:

I am getting lots of errors when I insert basic html tags into my "Notes" custom field (created custom for the Cliburn by Trumba as you mentioned). Am I not allowed to do any html there? The fields work correctly without any tags, but stop showing up when I use <i> or <b> or <p>. The tag <br> seems to be okay. I use standard html formatting, nothing weird or complex.

We have hundreds of events - worldwide concert tours. I want to make sure I know what's okay and what isn't before I go and enter tons of data for many events.

thanks for advising -

Emily

Hi Emily,
Please let me know the specific errors you are seeing when you enter in basic HTML tags and I can test this more to see if I can reproduce these errors.

I just checked your account and your published calendar online and all of your events are appearing correctly as I am seeing all of your events with bold, italic, bullets, etc.

Thanks!
Steve

Hi Steve,
yes, I had to undo the formatting on the Sebastian Currier event. The concert is tomorrow so I don't want to leave it messed up this late in the game.

What gave me errors:
Notes field only (not the others) - "Notes" is a custom Trumba created one, btw
I had the program info in there but used <b>, <i>, and <p> tags to format it. No other types of html.

So I had to remove the aforementioned tags and just use all caps and <br> tags like the others.

My question is- am I correct in assuming I am not allowed to use anything but all caps and <br> any time it's a custom field I'm using? The normal, standard fields are a different case - they accept html just fine.

Why it matters to us:
I need to link out to artist websites and link to external audio samples, so if html's not an option in that custom field, that's a big problem for us. The audio samples drive ticket sales.

THANK YOU!
e.

Hi Emily,
Are you able to format this event like the others currently on your calendar? I see the other events are using a combination of <b>, <i>, <p>, etc. You are not required to use all caps or just the <br> tag in a custom field. These tags all work fine in both custom and built in fields.

On this event, Yundi Li, piano on 11/20/09, you will see there is a combination of text with tags in both the Summary and Notes field. The event on 2/17/09, Louise Lortie, piano shows a good example of HTML that links to audio and video samples. Are you trying to do that same with the Sebastian Currier event?

What error(s) are you seeing when you enter in these tags?

Thanks!
Steve

Ah, you are right about Yundi Li. Well, back to square one then. All of a sudden one day, the "More Info" (aka "Notes" on the backend) tab for Sebastian Currier just quit working. I got italicized text on that event, and the tab was non-functioning. Just that event though, and I'd done nothing to change it. I can't figure out why it quit working. The other events were fine.

This is a new problem - I've always done all kinds of html in all different fields, like you're saying.

It makes me nervous though, because I don't know why the field suddenly self-destructs.

Tell you what, I'll keep an eye out and send you a note + screencapture if this happens another time.

thanks for your help,
emily
