Hi,

I am currently evaluating how Trumba would work as a calendar program for my church. I have a few questions that I haven't seen addressed yet.

1. Is there any way for the person who views the public calendar to switch the view? I might prefer the month view as the administrator, but the end user might prefer the weekly or list view and I have not found a way to let them change that view. If this is not available, is it on the list for future updates?

2. Is there a way to use html in the e-mail message portion? I've considered using a separate e-mail service to send weekly newsletters, but would love to use just one program if possible. I do need the option to use html coding in the message to make it work as well as the e-mail services.

3. Are there any plans to divide the distribution list into groups, so that we don't have to mass mail information that need to go to just a select group? If not, is there a way to make this work some other way?

I would love to hear ideas of anyone else who is currently using this system for their church calendar.

Thanks,

Jim K.

Hi Jim K.,
Welcome to the Trumba forums! I can help you with these questions, but I still encourage people who are using Trumba for their church calendar to weigh in.

1. Currently we don't have a way to let the user switch views. This is on our list of future enhancements, but I can't say right now when it might be implemented.

2. When you say use HTML in the email message, do you mean in the part where you compose your message (i.e., not the actual calendar)? This is a nice idea that I haven't seen a request for before! So I just tried it with the same tags that are supported in the Notes section of events, and it worked. Keep in mind, though, that how the message looks on the receiving end depends on the email client. The ones that support text only will show the message differently than than the ones that support HTML in messages. (But the actual HTML code does not appear in the text only version.)

There'll be a list of these supported tags and their properties in our Help later this week. The topic is Use HTML code to format text in event notes (looks like I better change the title now). This URL won't work until Thursday or Friday, but here's the list of tags:

anchor <a>, paragraph <p>, horizontal rule <hr>
ordered list <ol>, unordered list <ul>, list item <li>
font <font> (tried only the color property), line break <br>
strong, bold <strong> or <b>, emphasis, italic <em> or <i>

3. You can set up multiple distribution lists with separate calendars and mix-ins. Here's another thread that talks a little bit about this. Let me know if I can clarify anything after you take a look.

Hope this helps. Thanks for helping us discover that you can use HTML in email!

I just started a 30-day trial, and have found some things that I think are needed.

I would like to see the option to allow calendar viewers to change the view as others have requested.

In addition, I would like to see a template that has the traditional calendar view, but with a option to display/not display the small monthly calendar and the Months list and/or to have them below the calendar. The current template makes most entries wrap below the time, thus making the calendar longer than necessary.

Is it possible for colors to be selected independent of the template? If you could set the font, size, color, and calendar colors to match your own site, it would be a step forward.

It also would be nice to be able to link into a spell check for people making entries. I know they can prepare the text offline and paste it in, but this would make it even more user friendly.

I see some good things: being able to modify recurring events individually is great as is the link to a detailed description. Having that pop up in a window over the calendar would be fabulous.

Hi Lois,

Sorry for the delayed response to your feature requests.

Glad you are checking our free trial.

I would like to see the option to allow calendar viewers to change the view as others have requested.

Our developers definitely have this on their list of requested features. Thanks for adding in your vote.

In addition, I would like to see a template that has the traditional calendar view, but with a option to display/not display the small monthly calendar and the Months list and/or to have them below the calendar. The current template makes most entries wrap below the time, thus making the calendar longer than necessary.

I wonder if you have considered an embedded calendar rather than linking to the published calendar.

Here are a few examples:

Is it possible for colors to be selected independent of the template? If you could set the font, size, color, and calendar colors to match your own site, it would be a step forward.

There is some customization of fonts and color possible when you select your template. More has been requested and is among the features that we hope to offer.

It also would be nice to be able to link into a spell check for people making entries. I know they can prepare the text offline and paste it in, but this would make it even more user friendly.

I will note this feature request.

I see some good things: being able to modify recurring events individually is great as is the link to a detailed description. Having that pop up in a window over the calendar would be fabulous.

I agree that would be a good feature if we can work seemlessly when there's a pop up blocker. I will pass on your request to our developers just in case something can be done.

Thanks for evaluating and taking the time to submit your ideas. Our product is evolving and we are continuing to add features regularly.
