Hello,

What I noticed after a quick review of Trumba is that the calendars and event details are written on the page with javascript.

Can the search engines (Yahoo, Google etc) crawl the information entered in the calendars?

Thanks

Hi zoom123,
Although you embed calendar spuds into your own site using java script, the calendar is also hosted on the Trumba site, where search engines can crawl the information in them. As you can see, this doesn't lead people to your site, but instead to your calendar on the Trumba site. We know this isn't the ideal situation, but we know that it's become an important issue and are actively working on finding a better solution. I don't know at this time when such a solution will be available, so in the meantime, here are some tips for optimizing the current situation:
  • Because search results will take people to your standalone calendar on the Trumba site, you might want to include some information in the calendar header about your organization, including a link to your own web site. You do this in step 2 of the publishing wizard, in the Description field. (You can also add a logo on this page.)
  • The template you use to publish the calendar affects what information gets indexed. For example, if you publish using the Month view, the event time and description are indexed, but the notes may not be. More info is indexed if you use the List template. In other words, if information appears on the calendar, it'll be indexed.
If you don't want to show the view with the most information in your embedded calendar spud, what you can do is publish using the List or Table template, but then when you embed the script in your site, add a parameter that changes the view. For example, the following code changes the view to Classic Month regardless of the template you used when you published the calendar:

<script type="text/javascript" src="http://www.trumba.com/k.aspx?calendar=yourcalendarname&template=month"></script>

I hope this helps. I'm sorry I can't give you a better answer. Here's another topic about this in case there's something in the first several posts that would help you.

p.s. Edited to add that if you do talk to our Business Dev. people about customization, I'd encourage you to talk to them about this, too.
