We are currently evaluating Trumba as a potential calendar program for our events/party calendar section of www.negril.com. So far, we are very impressed with many of the features and functionality. However, we have encountered an obstacle with respect to the way we want to use the calendar. Negril.com covers several travel destinations in Jamaica. Negril, Montego Bay, Ocho Rios, Kingston, etc., etc. http://www.negril.com/2/calendar/. We would like the following functionality:
1. Ability to display only relevant "party" calendar info to each destination. This mean for Negril, we only want to display Negril party information.
2. Ability to display "special events" calendar info across all destinations. We want visitors to have to ability to select or de-select the "special event" calendar at any destination page
The problem we are facing is if we create several destination calendars, when we publish the calendar, the script points back to the main calendar. Is there a way to segment the script so that we can display only relevant calendar information to each destination and also include the ability to have special event calendar available to all destinations?
Functionality question

Hi Negril.com. Thank you for trying out Trumba. Glad you are mostly impressed.
You ask if you can display party information that is unique for each destination and show the special events but give site visitors the ability to hide these events.
Based on what I can see on your website, it looks like you have already set up a separate special events calendar and then mixed it in during the publishing process. Site visitors can already hide or show the special events by clearing or selecting the Special Events checkbox at the top of the calendar. So that seems to be working the way you want it to.
If you want to display party information unique for each destination, you will need to create a party calendar for each destination. For example, you'll have a Negril party calendar, a Montego Bay party calendar, an Ocho Rios party calendar, and so on.
From looking at the calendar on your site, it also looks like there are events in white on the Negril.com calendar that you want to display in all locations?
If that's correct, here's what you can do to display the Negril.com and special events on the calendars for all locations along with just the party events specific to that location (assuming that you create a party calendar for each location):
- Publish the Negril party events calendar and mix in the overall negril.com and special events calendars. Give that calendar the webname negril or whatever.
- Publish the the Montego Bay party events calendar and mix in the overall negril.com and special events calendars. Give that calendar the webname montegobay or whatever.
- Repeat this process enough times to publish a calendar with a unique name that includes the location's party events, the overall calendar events, and the special events.
Then embed the location-specific calendars on calendar pages on your website specific to each location.
I hope this makes sense. Please let us know if you have more questions.
Connie
