Is it possible to filter events out of Upcoming Events spud?

Recommended Posts

So far, I love it! I would like to be able to filter out specific events from the Upcoming Events spud.

This will be a church calendar and I want to call out all of the events that aren't weekly services. So for instance, if this Sunday is:

8 am service
9 am service
10 am special speaker
11 am service
Noon picnic
5 pm youth group dinner

I want the spud to be able to show only the 10 am, noon and 5 pm events, and ignore the services.

If I create a services calendar separately (but mix it into the main display), will that work, or do I need to keep services as a separate, non-mixed calendar?

What you can do is create a custom field first and set up values so the events can be "tagged". For example, create a custom field called Event Type. Then create this field as a List of choices field with values such as: Weekly Service, Youth Group Dinner, Picnic/Potluck, Special Speaker

Now when you add or edit events, you will tag each event with one or more Event Types.

Now that you have events tagged with Event Types, you can set up a Filter View for your published calendar. You will first want to enable Filter Views by going to PublishSettings>Publish Settings tab>Edit Publish Settings.

With the filter view enabled and setup, you assign your filter view to your promotion spud and it will display only those event types assigned to your filter view.
