HTML special characters in Display Names in imported lists

Recommended Posts

Hi, I've read up on the display name issues, and wait eagerly for local control of the address book (perhaps local control is a misnomer--still can't change the display name of all the addresses I entered to my local address book...)

Unrelated to that is the following: when importing an address by CSV into Trumba address book, and the display name is set to something like:

"Smith Joan & John" or "Smith John & Jane Doe"

The ampersand gets turned into an HTML special character code "Ampersand letter-a letter-m letter-p semicolon" (sorry for the ungainly typing - had to "spell it out" as the BB software was interpreting it as a single ampersand character).

Kinda irritating now that I can't change it - oh well I should have tested first! Perhaps you could alert folks that one should be extremely conservative in the display names. I wonder what would happen to a cedilla or circumflex in someone's name?

Any time frame yet on changing from global, unalterable display names to locally-changeable?

Thank you!

Paul

Hi Paul,

Oh, no. I agree that people should be careful with the display names, but this sounds like an incorrect handling of the character, and I'll let QA and dev know about it. We should be able to fix this somehow. I'll let you know what more I can find out.

Hi Paul,

Our developer has fixed this so that the ampersands display correctly. He believes it was a simple display issue specific to the Address Book. In the database, the ampersand is stored correctly, and it displays correctly in other places (including when you send email to the people whose display names have the HTML code in them). Later this week, you should see ampersands in your Address Book instead of the HTML code. If you don't see them on Thursday, try a refresh of the browser window, and if that doesn't work, let us know!
